Amid all the fuss in recent days, dancehall star Popcaan is taking advantage of the watermelon-related controversy by teasing a new song.
Within the dancehall community, watermelon has emerged as an analogy for oral sex, born out of the recent dispute between Popcaan and Denyque, where the songstress wore a shirt that implied Popcaan was “somebody’s son” while she was “me” (represented by a watermelon being eaten by Popcaan), added fuel to this symbolism.
Popcaan responded with strong language to Denyque’s shirt, leading to a public exchange between the two entertainers. Denyque defended her choice of clothing, claiming it was just a shirt. Now, Popcaan seems to be capitalizing on the attention generated by this watermelon-related drama by teasing an upcoming release that uses the consumption of the fruit as a metaphor for receiving oral sex.
In a video shared earlier this week via his social media platform, the Unruly Boss can be seen in a recording studio; as the suggestive song blares in the background, the lyrics suggest a sexual proposition to a married woman. Fans are speculating that this could be a diss track aimed at Denyque. Regardless of the controversy, Popcaan’s new song seems to be garnering attention and generating discussions within the dancehall community.
While the feud with Denyque may have sparked this particular composition, it also highlights the dancehall genre’s ability to incorporate current trends and issues into its music, creating a dynamic and ever-evolving landscape within the Jamaican music scene.
