Dancehall hitmaker Popcaan has added his voice to a growing chorus of celebrities on social media showing solidarity with Canadian rapper Tory Lanez, who was sentenced to ten years in prison on Tuesday for shooting fellow entertainer Megan Thee Stallion.
Leveraging his Instagram Story, the Unruly Boss shared an image of Lanez along with the caption, “@torylanez Stay up my n***a!!” As opinions on Lanez’s sentence diverge, with Megan Thee Stallion’s supporters approving the verdict and Lanez’s fans and colleagues advocating for leniency, Popcaan’s support aligns him with those who consider the ten-year incarceration disproportionate.
Lanez himself addressed the court before the sentencing, expressing remorse for his actions during the shooting incident that resulted in Megan Thee Stallion’s physical and emotional trauma. Speaking directly to Judge David Herriford, Lanez pleaded for a second chance to revamp his life, emphasizing his continued love for the victim.
With nearly a year in custody already, the rapper emotionally spoke of his young son who needs him, urging for clemency and the opportunity to demonstrate his growth and redemption. Amidst the emotional plea, Lanez acknowledged the gravity of his offence and the consequential ramifications he faces.
