Amidst the excitement of Reggae Sumfest and other social and political events across the space, dancehall icon Beenie Man discreetly announced his new album, “Simma.”Â
Taking to social media platform Instagram, he revealed the official cover art, tracklist, production credits, and the album’s release date in a visually aesthetic multi-post accompanied by a heartfelt caption.
Under MD Music Group, the 19-track set slated for release on August 31, 2023, boasts contributions from renowned producers  Andre “Suku” Gray, Dutty Rock Productions, Teddy Riley and The FaNaTiX, Jeremy Harding, Jerome Wright, MD Music Group, Money Matters Entertainment, Richie D, Rohan Smith, Tony Kelly, and Walshy Fire.
After almost a seven-year interlude since his last album, Unstoppable, released in 2016, “Simma” holds immense significance for Beenie Man. He shared a sincere message on Instagram, stating that the album was created during his lowest point after losing his mother.Â
“This album is very special to me because I created this body of work at my lowest point when I lost my mom. Simma will showcase my versatility as an artiste, where I have explored new genres while keeping the music authentic. Simma signifies that I am still here and doing what I love best, touring and making great music.” the caption read.
The anticipation for “Simma” has been building over the past two years, with production challenges leading to some delays. Nevertheless, with a career spanning several decades and numerous accomplishments, including a Grammy Award for Best Reggae Album, “Art and Life” (2000), Beenie Man’s seventeenth studio effort holds promise to be a captivating addition to his impressive discography.
