Masicka, the newest addition to Def Jam Recordings, has made remarkable strides in his career. His debut album, “438,” has achieved a significant milestone by becoming the dancehall project with the longest album streak on the Apple Music Jamaica Daily Chart.
Maintaining its position in the Top 10 for an impressive 85 weeks, the album only slipped once to position No.11 on Tuesday, July 18, 2023, since released on December 3, 2021. In the U.S., “438” garnered 32,600 equivalent album units within a year, including 1,200 pure album sales and a remarkable total of 48.8 million on-demand streams from combined audio and video data.
The album, consisting of 16 tracks, debuted at No.2 on the Billboard Reggae Albums Chart in December 2021, reached No.14 on the Billboard Seekers Album list, and spent seven consecutive weeks in the Top 10. Recognizing Masicka’s conquest, the American music platform awarded him a pair of plaques for these achievements.
Locally, Masicka is set to captivate audiences once again at the 2023 edition of Reggae Sumfest. Last year’s performance, which featured a special appearance by British rapper Stefflon Don, left the audience delighted and eager for more. This year, event organizers are promising a spectacular show from the dancehall “Tyrant” and have invited fans to share their favourite songs in anticipation of the affair.
In preparation for his forthcoming album, Masicka has been actively promoting his second single, “Tyrant,” released over a month ago and has already amassed over 5.9 million views on YouTube. The highly-anticipated sophomore album, still untitled, will follow the critically acclaimed debut, “438.” Masicka’s career continues to soar, and his achievements indicate that he is poised for even greater success in the music industry.
