Dancehall hitmaker Demarco denies allegations that his latest song, produced by ZJ Liquid on the Pied Piper Riddim compilation, is taking a dig at Jamaican Prime Minister Andrew Holness.
The song, titled “JanCrow,” was officially released last weekend and sees Demarco deejaying the lines,
“Skull pon e line and a money a di convo, mula!
real top tief like Anju,”
Commenting on the lyrics, one social media user wrote, “e dawg style Andrew Holness neatly, him bad!” sparking a wave of similar critiques. However, Demarco has refuted these claims, stating that the song has nothing to do with the Prime Minister.
When contacted, Demarco expressed his appreciation for the feedback from fans but maintained that the song was not directed at Holness.
“I don’t know why people would assume is di Prime Minister me a talk, look how much people inna the world name Andrew, even couple a mi bredren dem name suh. Dis nuh have nutten fi do wid him, anyways big up the fans dem sed way,” he added.
Despite the controversy, “JanCrow” is poised to be one of the project’s top songs of the summer party season, along with Bugle’s “Liv.” Both songs enjoy premium rotation on the dancehall circuit and the airwaves and could be considered the frontrunners on the Pied Piper Riddim compilation, which features 13 tracks. The track set also includes contributions from other top dancehall artists such as Vybz Kartel, Konshens, I-Octane, and Shane-O, as well as new sensations Ajji, 10Tik, I-Waata, Hitmaker, Quik Cook, Yaksta, and Milawno.
