Prism Marketing Consultants understands that well-known attorney-at-law Peter Champagnie has been retained to represent Andrew Wright, a prominent event promoter and businessman implicated in the multi-million dollar fraud scheme at the Institute of Sports.
Kings Counsel Champagnie revealed this information in a brief statement to the press.
On Wednesday, the Major Organised Crime and Anti-Corruption Agency (MOCA) arrested and charged Andrew Wright, Rudolph Barnes, and Oneil Hope in connection with a massive $222 million fraud scheme at the Institute of Sports between 2011 and 2017.
Mr. Wright and his co-conspirators, former INSPORTS employees, allegedly participated in fraudulent activities such as writing, signing, and encashing cheques for individuals not affiliated with the organization.
The suspected fraud and other irregularities were discovered during a financial records examination conducted by INSPORTS in 2017. INSPORTS then reported the matter to MOCA, which initiated an investigation resulting in the three individuals being charged with various offences, including conspiracy to defraud, larceny as a servant, acquisition, use, and possession of criminal property, and engaging in transactions involving criminal property.
