After serving a little over two years in a Jamaican correctional facility, dancehall artist Tommy Lee Sparta was released from prison on Thursday, March 23rd.
Prism Marketing Consultants confirmed the news after an initial announcement by ONStage TV, who spoke directly to the artist following his release.
Tommy Lee Sparta, whose real name is Leroy Russell, was sentenced in March 2021 to three years in prison for illegal possession of a firearm and two years for illegal possession of ammunition. He pleaded guilty to both charges, and the sentences were set to run concurrently, meaning he would serve a total of three years.
The artist was arrested in December 2020 after being caught with a firearm on Holborn Road, New Kingston. The police SWAT division detained him, and he was subsequently charged and brought before the court.
Attorneys-at-law Tom Tavares Finson QC and Donahue Martin represented the deejay.
Now that he has been released from prison, it remains to be seen what Tommy Lee Sparta’s next steps will be in his music career.
