UK-based DJ/Radio Show Host/Tastemaker Mixmaster J, a.k.a. “The English General”, has solidified himself as one of the leading forces in spreading Reggae and Dancehall music to various parts of the globe and continues to set the standard in the art of DJing.
Since the 90s, he has utilized his skills in captivating audiences in every location he has played around the world and through every medium listeners use to consume his work. He possesses versatility in his sets, and caters to the old and new-school listener in every genre.
Born to Jamaican parents, Mixmaster J knew early in life of the prominent voices in Jamaican music, and with the help of his Grandmother, he developed an eclectic taste for music the world had to offer. His DJ aspirations started from a young age, and his dedication to the craft over the years lead to him becoming one of Europe’s premiere music ambassadors. Mixmaster J’s expertise in his field is strongly shown by the tools of his trade. While many DJ would recruit the latest gadgets for their set, he utilizes the CDJ music player to rock his crowds, and it hasn’t failed him yet.
Mixmaster J’s professionalism has lead him to play at the “Notting Hill Carnival” every year since 1998, the “Welcome To Jamrock Cruise” since 2015, at Art Basel with Inner Circle, at the O2 Arena with Damian “Junior Gong” Marley, the “Byline Festival”, and the “Hackney Reggae Festival” among many others. He recalls playing in Paris, France at an Aircraft Hangar with Stone Love’s DJ Iceberg for over 3,000 people as one of his favourite moments. He also cites DJing for Junior Gong at the O2 Arena, and at the “Welcome To Jamrock Cruise” as other favourites as he successfully played for over 5000 people in attendance. He has dabbled in the Soundclash culture, and has represented well in a number of events, emerging as a victor in a number of them. His mixing skills have resulted in a number of celebrated mixtapes, and he has been recruited by VP Records and Trojan Records to curate special mixes. The DJ has also developed a skillset for Interviewing, and has placed many in the hot seat including the likes of Lila Ike, Shaggy, Sanchez, Sean Paul, Cocoa Tea, StoneBwoy, Eddie Murphy, and Kabaka Pyramid.
