Earlier this week, on Instagram, incarcerated dancehall star Vybz Kartel announced that he will be releasing a new EP titled “The Appellant.”
What is an Appellant? The word denotes a party who appeals a lower court’s judgment or order to a higher court seeking a review to overturn or modify the decision.
The social media post featured a new black-and-white headshot of the deejay donning a pair of sunglasses and full facial hair, accompanied by the caption,
“New EP Coming this December!

#ExiledPharaohSeries part1″
Appeasing his 1.9 million followers on the platform, he asserts that the forthcoming project is merely the prelude to his Exiled Pharaoh series before ending the post with IG handle mentions of his attorney Isat Buchanan, music producers TJ Records and Aiko Pon Di Beat.
The title of his new EP relates to his final appeal before the UK Privy Council regarding the murder case involving Clive “Lizard” Williams. The Appellant will follow his September release “True Religion“, a seven-track EP dedicated to his Turkish-British fiancée Sidem Öztürk.
Incarcerated since 2011, Kartel continues to release new music and remains one of the most enigmatic and controversial figures in dancehall.
His attorney remains optimistic that the entertainer will succeed in his appeal before the Privy Council.
