Popular entertainer Laa Lee has partnered with the Statistical Institute of Jamaica (STATIN) to launch their 15th Population and Housing Census, set to get underway next month.
The event was held at the AC Marriot Hotel in Kingston on Wednesday morning with several dignitaries in attendance, including Prime Minister Andrew Holness, Minister of Finance and the Public Service Nigel Clarke and Member of Parliament Julian Robinson, among others.
As part of his official duties, the Bird hitmaker and his team from Frankie Music were tasked with composing the theme song and accompanying dance moves around the slogan “Yuh count, mi count, all a wi count!”. The aforementioned was unveiled at the launch. Laa Lee will also use his popularity to encourage Jamaicans to participate in the critical enumeration exercise to commence on September 12, 2022.
The census is the largest statistical project undertaken by any country. The 15th Population and Housing Census was scheduled to take place in 2021. However, due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, it was postponed. Jamaica had a population of 2,697,983 at the time of the latest census in 2011.
The data gathering effort will be carried out by over 7,000 field personnel.
