Every once in a while, an artist comes along with a sound so distinctive that they leave an indelible mark on their genre. DeCapri is one such artist. Hailing from St. Ann, Jamaica, his music reflects a deep connection to his roots, combined with a modern flair that sets him apart in the ever-evolving dancehall landscape. “St. Ann has produced some of the greatest reggae and dancehall stars, and that influence has definitely shaped who I am as an artist,” DeCapri said, sharing the importance of his hometown to his creative evolution.
Having first gained experience as part of the group “St. Ann Groovers,” DeCapri honed his skills and developed a strong sense of self-belief. He attributes this foundation to his success as a solo artist. “It was a learning experience, mastering the art of writing, producing, and recording. That group gave me the confidence I needed to take my career to the next level,” he noted. Today, his sound stands out due to his distinct vocal tone, melodic approach, and the relatable topics he addresses in his music.
DeCapri’s standout tracks, such as “Rich Fi Dis Year” and “My Time,” are testaments to his creative vision and connection with his audience. “‘Rich Fi Dis Year’ came from a slang we created, and I wanted to put that energy into a song. With ‘My Time,’ I was riding a wave of excitement because I was getting airplay and knew it was my moment,” he shared. Brimming with authenticity and raw talent, these tracks have struck a chord with dancehall fans eager for fresh perspectives.
Since relocating to the U.S. in 2015, DeCapri has embraced new opportunities while remaining true to his Jamaican roots. His global vision has helped him grow, and he’s focused on connecting with a broader audience. “Moving to the U.S. changed how I approach music. It made me more professional, and now I’m delivering my sound to a wider, more diverse audience,” he explained. With his talent and drive, DeCapri is positioned to take dancehall to new heights, and fans won’t want to miss the exciting journey ahead.
As the final quarter of 2024 draws to a close, the dancehaller is actively promoting the singles, ‘Heavy‘, ‘Come Now‘ and ‘Bad Like You‘, the latter released over the weekend.
