Viral on-stage antics involving dancehall star O’Neil ‘Elephant Man’ Bryan has escalated into a legal dispute after professional videographer Dario Shields instructed his attorneys to pursue legal action over an incident at Dream Weekend’s YUSH party. The legal team is demanding a full, public and unequivocal apology, alleging Shields was dragged, publicly humiliated and verbally degraded while carrying out his professional duties. However, Elephant Man maintains that what unfolded was part of the performance and was never intended as disrespect towards the photographer.

In a statement released on Tuesday, Shields’ attorneys said no formal apology has been received despite public claims by Elephant Man that he had apologised. They insisted any apology should acknowledge the indignity allegedly suffered by their client and reaffirm the respect owed to professionals working within Jamaica’s entertainment industry. The legal team further disclosed that Shields has instructed them to pursue all legal remedies available, regardless of whether an apology is ultimately issued. “Our client considers Mr. Bryan’s actions as distasteful, entirely uncalled for, and woefully unprofessional. No individual, regardless of their perceived status or public profile, is above the law,” the statement read.

According to the legal representatives, the incident occurred during Elephant Man’s performance at Dream Weekend’s YUSH party on August 1 in Montego Bay, St James. Shields claims he was intentionally dragged across the stage in full view of thousands of patrons, members of the media and fellow industry professionals while derogatory remarks were allegedly directed at him. The attorneys said the incident caused the photographer significant embarrassment and emotional distress while he was simply carrying out work for which he had been contracted. They also revealed that Shields’ camera was damaged during the encounter, with the extent of the damage currently being assessed.

The confrontation has fuelled widespread debate after videos of the incident circulated across social media, triggering heavy criticism of the veteran dancehall entertainer. In response, Elephant Man has rejected allegations that he assaulted the photographer, insisting the interaction formed part of the show’s entertainment and was never intended to demean someone doing his job. With legal proceedings now under consideration, the fallout from the viral moment appears far from over.
