For years, Craigy T has entertained audiences as a member of one of dancehall’s most successful groups, but behind the music, the artiste was fighting a deeply private battle with depression and suicidal thoughts. Now, in one of his most candid interviews to date, the T.O.K member has revealed that he once came close to taking his own life before something told him to pick up his phone. That seemingly ordinary decision led him to an interview featuring Sean Paul and a media personality, a moment Craigy T says helped shift his state of mind during one of the darkest periods of his life.

Speaking with Anthony Miller on Entertainment Report, Craigy T said he has grappled with thoughts of suicide for years and had come close to acting on them. “I’ve had suicidal thoughts many times,” he revealed, explaining that the subject is one he had previously kept largely private. However, the artiste now believes that sharing his experiences and the ways he has worked through personal challenges could potentially help others facing similar struggles. He also spoke about seeking professional support, noting that mental-health issues can be particularly difficult for men to confront openly.

The deeply personal experiences have also helped shape The Ascension, Craigy T’s debut solo album, which took approximately eight years to create. The project marks a significant new chapter for the entertainer, who said he wants audiences to recognise that he can “stand alone” while offering a more intimate look into his thoughts, spirituality and personal journey. Beyond themes of depression and emotional struggle, the album explores conversations with God, death, mortality and what may come after life. “The most difficult person that you will ever get to know is yourself,” Craigy T reflected.

The artiste also addressed his past struggles with anger, revealing that he carried significant anger as a child but has since learned to better understand and channel those emotions. His journey towards healing has extended beyond music as well. During the COVID-19 period, Craigy T turned to welding and metal fabrication, describing the creative process as a form of therapy. As he steps forward with The Ascension, the entertainer is offering fans perhaps his most unguarded self yet, transforming years of private battles, introspection and survival into a new chapter of his musical career.
