Just one week after the death of reggae singer Fantan Mojah, his family is urging fans to remain on high alert after fraudulent fundraising appeals began circulating online. In an official “Fraud Alert” shared via Instagram, the family stressed that no GoFundMe campaign or any other fundraising initiative has been authorised on behalf of the late artiste, his estate, or his funeral arrangements. Supporters were also warned not to send money, disclose personal information, or engage with individuals claiming to be collecting donations in his name.
The statement comes as tributes continue to pour in for the beloved reggae singer, whose passing has sparked an outpouring of grief from fans around the world. The family emphasised that any appeal for money, donations, fundraising support or financial contributions claiming to represent Fantan Mojah, his family, his estate or funeral arrangements should be treated as fraudulent. They further advised supporters to remain vigilant against scams and confirmed that all verified updates regarding funeral services, memorial events and related arrangements will be released only through Fantan Mojah’s official social media pages or authorised representatives.
Fantan Mojah, born Owen Moncrieffe, died at the University Hospital of the West Indies in Kingston on July 14, 2026, following complications related to a heart condition. He was 49. In the days following his passing, fans across Jamaica and the wider reggae community celebrated his enduring legacy, sending his music soaring back onto the U.S. iTunes Top 100 Reggae Albums and Songs charts. His 2016 album Soul Rasta climbed to No. 13, while six of his songs simultaneously re-entered the U.S. iTunes Top 100 Reggae Songs Chart, underscoring the lasting impact of his catalogue.
As supporters continue to mourn one of reggae’s most respected voices, the family is encouraging the public to rely solely on official communication channels for updates and to report any suspicious fundraising activity. Funeral arrangements have not yet been announced.
