Reggae-dancehall icon Shaggy has revealed that his remarkable journey from Kingston to global superstardom could soon be heading to the theatre stage. The Grammy-winning entertainer disclosed that a musical inspired by his life and chart-topping catalogue is currently in development, with writers already exploring concepts following the overwhelming response to his performances alongside Sting in the acclaimed production The Last Ship.

Speaking about the project, Shaggy explained that discussions are still in the early stages, but momentum is already building behind the idea. “There’s talks of a musical. We’re actually developing it right now,” he said, adding that the positive reaction to his role in The Last Ship has sparked conversations with writers who are researching and shaping potential storylines. While no final direction has been chosen, the entertainer revealed that the production could either tell the story of his life or weave his biggest hits into an original theatrical narrative.

The project marks another chapter in Shaggy’s long-standing creative partnership with Sting. The pair have become close friends and collaborators since recording music together and have continued to tour extensively around the world. Their latest collaboration sees Shaggy starring as the Wallsend Ferryman in The Last Ship, Sting’s semi-autobiographical musical based on life in the shipbuilding town of Wallsend in North East England.

With a catalogue that includes global hits such as Boombastic, Oh Carolina and It Wasn’t Me, Shaggy has no shortage of material to draw from. His rise from Jamaica to becoming one of the most recognisable names in reggae and dancehall music offers a compelling story that could resonate with both theatre audiences and longtime fans alike.

As development continues, fans will be watching closely to see whether the production becomes a traditional biographical musical or an original story driven by the soundtrack of Shaggy’s biggest songs. Either way, one of reggae’s most influential voices appears poised to bring his legacy to an entirely new stage.
