Dancehall artiste Flippa Moggela has withdrawn his request for bail in his ongoing U.S. federal drug conspiracy case as major changes unfold within his legal team ahead of a critical plea negotiation deadline. The entertainer, whose given name is Andrew Davis, officially pulled the application on Monday while simultaneously parting ways with court-appointed attorney Edward Borden.
Flippa Moggela is now being represented by Philadelphia-based attorney Jason Javie, who describes himself as a civil rights lawyer and specialist in criminal appeals and post-conviction defence matters. The sudden legal shake-up comes just days after the dancehall artiste sought release under strict electronic monitoring, arguing through his former attorney that he was not a flight risk and should be allowed to live under the supervision of his son, a Philadelphia-based nurse.
Federal prosecutors allege that Flippa Moggela, along with co-accused Damion Jones, James McBride, and Clifford Brown, was involved in a multi-state drug trafficking conspiracy linked to cocaine, methamphetamine, and fentanyl distribution. Authorities are reportedly relying on wiretap surveillance, intercepted communications, and digital evidence as part of the case.
The entertainer was reportedly still on probation relating to a previous drug conviction at the time of his latest arrest. Despite the seriousness of the allegations, all four defendants have indicated their intention to pursue plea negotiations with prosecutors instead of proceeding directly to trial. The court has given both sides until July 11 to finalise any possible agreements.
Notably, Flippa Moggela remains the only defendant among the four co-accused to have attempted to secure bail since the case entered federal court. With a new attorney now leading his defence and plea discussions intensifying behind the scenes, attention is expected to remain firmly fixed on the next phase of the high-profile case.
