In a groundbreaking move, the popular satirical talent competition Coulda Been Records officially made its way to Jamaica, marking the show’s second international expansion. The comedic talent show premiered via YouTube on Thursday, April 10, 2025, with two of Jamaica’s biggest stars, Shenseea and Popcaan, stepping into the spotlight as the episode’s special guest judges.
Known for its unfiltered humor and brutally honest critiques, Coulda Been Records began as an Instagram Live series created by comedian Druski in 2019. What started as a loosely structured virtual audition show quickly evolved into a viral sensation. With stops in cities like New Orleans, Memphis, Chicago, Detroit, and the African state of Nigeria, the franchise has grown into a global comedy juggernaut—now expanding to the Caribbean, where music and performance are deeply rooted in the culture.
And what better launchpad than Jamaica—the birthplace of dancehall?
The Kingston leg of the show was filmed at 10a West Kings House Road, a vibrant and versatile event space. The venue buzzed with anticipation as hopefuls from all walks of life turned up to audition—ranging from aspiring singers and deejays to dancers and comedic performers, all chasing a taste of viral stardom.
Druski was joined by Shenseea and Popcaan, whose presence added a distinctly Caribbean flavour to the show’s signature mix of satire and talent showcase. The episode was peppered with laugh-out-loud moments, sharp commentary, and viral-worthy exchanges.
Shenseea, known for her confidence, wit, and razor-sharp feedback, brought high energy and authenticity to the panel. She was charismatic, especially when confronted by a contestant whose lyrics referred to women with derogatory terms such as “germs” and “Johncrow.” Her reaction—equal parts hilarious and unfiltered—was an instant standout moment.
Popcaan, ever the crowd favourite, delivered his critiques with a signature blend of humor and island flair, offering up patois-laced gems that left both the onlookers and viewers laughing. One of the most memorable exchanges came during his interaction with Whisper, a Golden Spring-based dancehall artist whose performance sparked an animated back-and-forth with the Unruly Boss himself.
