Dancehall artiste Blak Ryno says his forthcoming EP Focus is near completion, marking a significant milestone in his musical journey. The project, which is expected to feature six to seven tracks, is slated for release in the first quarter of 2025. As anticipation builds, Ryno is set to shoot the music video for the EP’s lead single and title track, Focus, this weekend. Speaking with Prism Marketing Consultants, the Bike Back deejay expressed his dedication to ensuring that this body of work reflects his artistic growth. “I’m working on several new singles and want to ensure this project reflects my growth as an artiste,” he noted.
Beyond the EP, Ryno is gearing up for a series of live performances, including scheduled gigs in New York and Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. This marks a return to the stage following a brief hiatus, during which he dedicated himself to crafting new music. His decision to prioritize the studio over performances aligns with a broader trend seen among dancehall artists who are focusing on building strong catalogues before hitting the road. Streaming platforms have played a pivotal role in reshaping the industry, with Spotify reporting a 22% increase in reggae and dancehall streams in 2024, underscoring a growing global appetite for the genre.
Adding to his momentum, Ryno recently made headlines for reconnecting with his former Gaza affiliates, Vybz Kartel and Popcaan, after more than a decade of separation. The reunion, which unfolded via a video call orchestrated by Lisa Hype, sparked discussions about unity within the dancehall fraternity. “We talk bout a lot of things, cause memba a long time di whole a we nuh reason like that,” Ryno shared, reflecting on the moment. This reconciliation follows a similar truce between Shawn Storm and Popcaan, further highlighting a shift towards healing old wounds within the genre.
With a renewed focus on his craft, an upcoming EP, and a return to the stage, Blak Ryno is positioning himself for a strong year ahead.
