Dancehall heavyweight Demarco is setting his sights on bigger international wins in 2025, pivoting from trap-dancehall to a more authentic sound that aligns with the genre’s commercial blueprint. Fresh off a stellar performance at Jammin Panama alongside reggae icon Capleton, the Love My Life hitmaker is re-evaluating his musical direction after observing trends in global dancehall consumption. His conclusion? The original dancehall formula still holds the most appeal.
“For the new year, we’ll be making some changes—more original dancehall and less of that trap business,” Demarco revealed. While he has experimented heavily with trap-dancehall in recent years, he acknowledges that mainstream success remains elusive for the subgenre. Data supports this sentiment, as Billboard’s Reggae Albums chart and streaming analytics consistently favour traditional dancehall styles over hybrid productions. With this in mind, Demarco is working on a new single, laying the groundwork for an EP that promises a return to dancehall’s core elements. “It will have a very authentic feel,” he teased, keeping further details under wraps.
Beyond new music, Demarco is also planning a strategic rebranding effort, bolstered by major festival appearances across the Caribbean, Latin America, Europe, and North America. This international push aligns with dancehall’s steady rise in global markets—Spotify reported a 30% increase in dancehall streams outside Jamaica in 2024, signalling strong demand. As Demarco prepares to reintroduce himself to the industry with this refined approach, fans can expect a more polished yet nostalgic sound that aims to solidify his presence on the world stage.
