Jamaican dancehall sensation Skillibeng is making major waves on the global stage, securing his spot as a finalist for the 2024 Billboard Music Awards (BBMAs). The East Syde Deejay has been nominated in the highly competitive Top Afro Beats Song category for his feature on the infectious track “Jump,” alongside American rapper Gunna and South African singer Tyla. In an Instagram post, Skillibeng shared his excitement, writing, “It’s such an honour to be a finalist for the 2024 @BBMAs!” and encouraged his followers to tune in to the live broadcast on December 12.
The Afro Beats Song of the Year category is packed with talent, with other notable nominees including Nigerian star Tems for her hit “Love Me JeJe,” and Tyla, who secured two additional spots for both her breakout single “Water” and the infectious “Truth or Dare.” Skillibeng’s recognition places him in the midst of some of the genre’s most influential artists, solidifying his position as a rising international force within the music industry.
Skillibeng’s recognition at the BBMAs comes off the back of a monumental year. In October, the deejay joined Nicki Minaj on her Pink Friday 2 World Tour – Gag City Reloaded, performing alongside the New York rapper and fellow Jamaican artist Skeng at various U.S. venues. This tour culminated on October 11 in Queens, New York, marking another significant milestone in the artiste’s career. With each new achievement, Skillibeng continues to build his reputation as a boundary-pushing force in dancehall, earning fans and accolades worldwide.
As the December 12 BBMAs broadcast approaches, all eyes will be on the East Syde DJ to see if he will take home the prestigious award. “Don’t miss the show on Thursday, December 12 at 8pm ET on @FOXTV + @amazonfiretv, and streaming after on @ParamountPlus!” Skillibeng urged his fans. Whether or not he claims the trophy, Skillibeng’s journey in 2024 is undoubtedly one to watch.
