Dancehall icon Vybz Kartel is making a bold return to the business world with the announcement of a new rum line, marking his second foray into the liquor industry. Fresh off his release from prison after having his murder conviction overturned by the U.K. Privy Council earlier this year, the “World Boss” revealed the exciting news via Instagram Live on Tuesday morning. Kartel gave fans a sneak peek of the upcoming rum, showcasing various flavours and teasing a vibrant new addition to the alcohol market, though it remains unclear if this venture will revive his previous “Street Vybz” brand or take a new direction entirely.
“I’ve been thinking about this for a while now,” Kartel shared during the livestream. “It’s time to bring something new and refreshing, just like I do with my music.” The product, which is set to be produced in Trinidad and Tobago, is expected to hit local shelves by the end of October. This marks Kartel’s renewed commitment to expanding his brand beyond the stage, as he seeks to capitalize on his popularity and solidify his entrepreneurial prowess.
Kartel’s first venture into the rum business came in 2008 with the launch of Street Vybz Rum, in collaboration with businessman Corey Todd. However, production ceased in 2011 due to a dispute between the two. Fans have been anticipating a revival ever since, and while Kartel hinted at bringing back Street Vybz in recent years, he remained tight-lipped on whether this new release is part of that resurrection.
On the music front, Kartel continues to dominate. His single The Comet has garnered over 6.6 million views on YouTube and continues to gain traction across streaming platforms. With the impending launch of his new rum line and his ongoing musical success, Vybz Kartel shows no signs of slowing down, reminding fans that both his business acumen and creative energy remain as potent as ever.
