Jamaican songbird Tessanne Chin, best known for her remarkable victory on The Voice in 2013, is preparing to release her first album in a decade, following her 2014 project, Count on My Love. Although the upcoming album remains untitled and the release date unconfirmed, Chin’s return to the studio has fans eagerly anticipating new music. In a recent interview with the Jamaica Observer at the launch of the Live and Direct series in Kingston, Chin revealed her excitement about the creative process, saying, “We’re gonna start off with a release or two for Christmas. I want to get back in that mode, I want to get creative again, and that’s a blessing for me.”
Chin’s previous album, released by Republic Records, saw commercial success, debuting at No. 41 on the Billboard 200 and featuring fan favourites like “Everything Reminds Me of You” and “Tumbling Down.” Now, with production from Natural High Music on her new project, the singer is ready to explore a fresh sound. Reflecting on her artistic journey, she admitted, “If I’m being honest, I haven’t felt that way in a long time [creating music], so I’m just having fun.” This sense of renewed joy and freedom is palpable, and it hints at the bold, authentic direction her new work might take.
When asked about potential collaborations, Chin expressed admiration for her peers, noting, “I love Tarrus Riley; he’s amazing. I’d love to do a song with him. I love Alaine; I think she’s awesome. I want it to be like old friends meeting up again.” Fans of Jamaican music are hopeful that these dream collaborations will materialize, adding to the anticipation surrounding the release. As Tessanne Chin steps back into the spotlight, her forthcoming album promises to be a significant milestone in her evolving musical career.
